"Rickles" - 1975

Why am I posting the opening musical number ("I'm A Nice Guy") from the 1975 TV special Rickles? Well, play the clip and pay close attention at around the 2:55 mark. Truly surreal.

I was looking up a movie on IMDB that happened to have Larry Linville in it. So I looked him up, wondering what his last project was.

Then I saw that he made an appearance on this TV special..but was listed as playing Frank Burns, not appearing as Himself. I was like, what the what?!?

So, amazingly, I found the clip online, the exact clip I needed. It is a truly bizarre piece of entertainment, especially when you consider that it was an ABC special, featuring a cameo by CBS TV show characters!

Larry Linville was a worse singer than Jack Palance. I wouldn't have guessed that! (He was better than the shark, though.)

Actually, it's kind of cool as a Burns fan to discover my hero had that kind of rep in the day. Bobby Riggs (the guy with the tennis racquet) was recognized for ticking off feminists when he challenged Billie Jean King, but Frank Burns doesn't even seem to need a scalpel or other prop, just his uniform and his girl, to get people to recognize him.
